Pediatric ER

We provide the specialized expertise of a comprehensive pediatrics team. Our Pediatric ER, which opened in April 2010, is the only one of its kind in the tri-county area including Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa Counties. The Pediatric ER is a separate emergency room open 24/7 that is dedicated solely to treating the emergency health care needs of infants, children and adolescents from birth to 15 years of age.

In addition to the board-certified pediatricians, we offer:

  • 24 hour care
  • Specially trained emergency staff

Emergency Department Director Scott Barron, MD, says children need specialized care, especially during an emergency. “No hospital in the area has this level of care and this level of commitment to making our patients feel comfortable.”

To provide a child-friendly environment, we partnered with the Gulfarium and its staff of artists, to provide an ocean environment of vibrant sea creatures. Each of the ER treatment areas has a theme supported by Dolphins, Sea Lions, Sea Horses, Turtles, Puffer Fish, Eels, and Crabs.

Pediatric Care in the Hospital

When our young patients require hospitalization, they are in good hands. We have the only ICU for babies and a full-service inpatient peds unit.

The Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has ten beds and provides for the special needs of moderately ill newborns 32 week gestations or later, birth weight of 2 lbs 3 oz) and the more high-risk newborns born here and those transferred in from another facility.

Our pediatric unit includes 10 beds. We have board-certified pediatricians, highly skilled nurses and pediatric specific equipment. We offer consultation and coordination with subspecialists and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
